Problems fixing: Giver Community

A problem in my life is about the population. The population is growing and there are more and more people who are keep on having childs. Population is growing by numerous numbers and it has to be stopped some way. If there are too much population there would be more polution and not enough resources and space to live for everyone. For instance, population in China has  become a big problem. They had to stop that by making a very sad rule of having only 2 children.

The solution they used in the Giver is to have babies adopt and give each familes certain amount of babies so the population will stop growing. It is like Gabriel, Jonas and Lily was adopted and given to their parent too. The children are given to their parents. Also every children gets a job and things like bicycle at the same time. For example, Jonas was picked as the reciever who recieves the memories from the giver keeps other people's memory.

The community used a good way and it is much better than the rule of China. But the bad thing is that the parents can't have their own baby. That's what I didn't like about this book. Parents can't have their real baby. The have to give their baby away and get others. That's what was so sad. The parents wouldn't have a baby that doesn't match anything with them. It would be really sad for me to have a adopted baby.

Textbook: Answering Review Questions from page 61

1. What methods and sources do historians use to learn about the past?
They use the primary sources that was left on that day like the Pliny's letter. Something that is real and existed on that day.

2. Is the map on page 39 a primary source or a secondary source? Why?

It is a secondary source because its a map that people in these days made instead of the people who made this map long time ago/It is because it was made by a person who studied the original sources.

3. Why do historians ask questions about their sources?

To determine how accurate and useful it is.

4. In ancient Rome fewer women than men left behind written sources. How might this have affected historians' knowledge of the history of Rome?

I think women didn't get as much as education as the men. Because I think in the old days the women were not very respected unlike men. Like in Korea, women didn't get a lot of education and just did housework at home in the old days. I think this affected the knowledge of historian by making them think that mens had more educations than the women.

Big Bull Dog Doll

This doll was bought by my mom's sister's for my mom's marriage. I still have it at home in my room. It has been with my family for about 14 years! My mom still think it is very cute and precious. (It costed very much, don't know why.) I hope we can keep it for a long time. But now, it is getting very dirty and ripped. I really wish we can keep it for a very long time.

The African Man Statue

This statue was bought by my father when he went to Africa for work. It has been with my family for 10 years. It is statue of a man with a grass skirts, holding a spear. My father said it always reminds him when he went to Africa and saw the traditional dance. He also got to see many animals that we can't easily see.

The Two Statue of a Husband and Wife Eating Chestnuts

The Statue was bought from my mom just for decoration for the house. It has been with my family for almost 11 years. The wife is eating Chestnuts and the husband is smoking. Sometimes I like to make up stories with the two husband and wife and the african man statue.

Groundwater Exploitation

  1. Q:In your own words, explain what the title of this article means.

  2. A:It means using the Groundwater alone or in a good way that is bad for others for your own advantage.
  3. Q:According to the article, who is taking a lot of water out of the aquifer?

  4. A: The high rise buildings are taking much water from the aquaifer because there are many people livin in a small amount of area which needs a lot of water for the people. But they don't have much water because their area is small compared to the people. So they use more water from the aquifer than they are requested to.

  1. Q:If you take a lot of water from the aquifer, what three things happen?
    • If you take too much water from the aquifer than the ground might shake or tilt because there is nothing holding underneath it which is called Land Subsidence.
    • Saltwater can enter the aquifer more easily.
    • The people living around the apartment building can complain about the water of aquifer.

  1. Q:What is the punishment for taking more water than your permit allows?

A:The punishment is to pay a fine of 5 million rupiah or spending 6 month in jail.

  1. Q: Do you think this punishment will stop people taking too much water from the aquifer? Why?

A: I don't think this punishmentwill stop people from taking too much water from the aquifer. It is because the fine is too small and easy for the Apartment owners to pay. It is nothing for them since they get much more salary a month.

  1. Q:Jakarta’s aquifers are being contaminated by sea water. What else is contaminating Jakarta’s groundwater?

  2. A:Also wastes from the septic tank can contaminate the water easily by leaking septic tank if the aquifer is near the septic tank.

Water Definition

Septic Tank
A septic tank is an underground tank where poo, urine, and other waste matter is made harmless using bacteria.

Unprocessed Water
Water that is not processed by a event or steps that human made. The water that has not gone through a treatment plant.

Water Pressure
The force of the water that is produced when you go deep which pushes you. For example, if you turn the shower on and make into warm water, it is 50% warm water and 50% cold water. But since when you flush the toilet a lot than then the 50% cold water will be used so there would be only hot water. That's when the water pressure happens.

Groundwater
Groundwater is water that is found under the ground. Groundwater has usually passed down through the soil and become trapped by rocks. Groundwater is also called as aquafer.

Reservoir
A reservoir is a human made lake that is used for storing water before it is supplied to people. A dam is on the entrance to keep the water from keep on flowing down. The indonesia's reservoir is Jati Lahir. It is the only reservoir in Jakarta and we all drink from it. From the reservoir to the city the water goes through the West Tarum. An example of a reservoir would be a Water tower which can hold very much amount of water.

Water Myths

We have less water today than we did 100 years ago.

No, It is only a myth. There are probably the same amount of water as before we did 100 years ago. It is because the water never dissapears. For instance, if the water evaporates it comes back by precipitation. Also if you drink water, water comes back out by your pee, sweat.

Bottled water is safer than tap water.

First I thought it was true because they actually cost a lot more money but they are the same. They just sell bottled water because it is easier to carry it. Like, Mr. Hughes said the bottled water are about 10times expensive than normal tap water.

If lead is in your water, it’s the treatment plant’s fault.

Actually it is could be the treatment plant's fault but it is usually the pipes which makes the lead go in your water. On the way from the treatment plant to your home if your pipes aren't well cleaned or broken other substance can go in your water which makes water dirty. For example, if your pipe has a hole in it on the way dirts or other insects can go in your water.
